40 Families Displaced In 2 Fires At Same North Brunswick Complex In 24 Hours

Two multi-alarm fires in less than 24 hours displaced 40 families at the same North Brunswick apartment complex, sending one firefighter to the hospital, officials confirmed.

On Friday, Dec. 29, a fire displaced 20 families and pets at the Colony Oaks Apartment on Petunia Avenue were displaced by a multi-alarm blaze.

Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, another fire broke out, leaving an additional 20 families without a home, according to Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator Marrissa Heyman.

Eleven towns and nearly 60 firefighters responded to the second fire, she said. One firefighter was hospitalized with unspecified injuries, Heyman said.

A cause hadn't been identified as of press time.
